Suzanne Tick, Founder & Director

Hi! I’m Suzanne Tick an artist, mother, weaver and a teacher of Vedic Meditation. I have spent my career working in the Architecture and Design field. Running a design studio and living a life filled with deadlines with round the clock product development schedules.

I became interested in this technique to unwind from the unnecessary stress that was holding me back. If you are anxious and feel exhausted from the day to day management of life please join me in learning this easy simple technique.

I was initiated in India into the Saraswati tradition and have taught dozens of students around the country.

My goal with Fifth Floor Meditation is to facilitate Vedic Meditation to a wider community, to individuals, to corporations and their design teams and to give people the opportunity to deepen and awaken their Creative Intelligence through meditation. Becoming your teacher with weekly calls + gatherings in person or on line.

In adjunct, there are additional knowledge courses, that allow one to attune their awareness to the ongoing and ever-changing laws of Nature, resulting in the ability to experience less friction, determine the right response to any situation and attain greater clarity in the world around you.

About me:

Suzanne is the CEO of Tick Studio—a product development studio in New York City specializing in textiles, carpet and glass for the Architecture & Design community. She is a skilled artist and weaver, grounded in the repurposing of found materials.  Suzanne is also a celebrated speaker and her series, “Tick Talks,” pairs her creativity with the 5,000 year old body of wisdom known as the Veda.

In the 90’s, her search for meditation led her to Tibetan Buddhism and courses with Soygal Rinpoche. An avid yogi since 1994, Suzanne completed her 200 hour teacher training with Dharma Mittra in 2010 and have practiced with Manju Jois.

In 2017 she met Vedic meditation teachers Melanie and Neil Kirkbride of The Soft Road and her ultimate teacher Thom Knoles (Maharishi Vyasananda). Her immersive journey studying the Vedas with Thom became a calling and brought her to India on three occasions, culminating in a 3-month intensive Initiator Training in Rishikesh 2020.

Suzanne’s passions include traveling, gardening, cooking and being a mom to her beautiful adult son, Gabe and cat Cupid.

Suzanne is a board member of The Light Inside, expanding the teaching of Vedic Meditation in Rikers Island and other prison facilities in both the U.S. and Australia.

Fifth Floor Philosophy

The Fifth Floor Meditation nomenclature is a metaphor for the “place beyond the body or structure of space that we occupy… A floor or dimension beyond.”

Fifth Floor Meditation allows you to learn to transcend all thoughts of the ‘ever repeating known’ and explore this deep unbounded field of bliss. This place is called Being. It is the layer beyond that we go to twice a day while practicing this Vedic technique. Progressive Change is an ever evolving phenomenon that we are all experiencing on some level or another. Our minds are always searching for “a better way.” As taught by Thom Knoles, my teacher, whom studied with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for 26 years.

The center located in the East Village and on Fire Island takes us to a floor beyond our everyday existence. As a CEO, weaver, mentor and teacher, Suzanne’s teachings enable us to fully tap into our Creative Intelligence by adapting to the need of the time with relevance and grace.

Vedic Meditation is an effortless mental technique that allows one to experience fully awake-restful consciousness and its many physiological benefits. Our tradition is founded in The Vedas: the knowledge governing the unity of the laws of nature and human consciousness from which yoga, meditation, and Ayur Veda are derived.

Vedic Meditation practice is simple, natural, innocent and effortless. And it works.

Studying in India

In 2020, Suzanne left NYC for three months to complete her initiator training of Vedic Meditation. Three years previously, she acquired the knowledge of the Vedas and Patanjali’s Sutra programs.

The Initiator training, an intensive course, is held in a beautiful sattwa campus on the banks of a spring-fed river at the base of the Himalayas near Rishkesh, India.

Surrounded by beautiful mountains with exotic birds and wildlife, this rigorous program focuses on deepening your meditation practice so as to unstress your nervous system at a molecular level. With over 745 hours of meditation in three months, one begins to recognize their individuality in connection with universality. The student becomes the teacher and the teacher becomes the student.

The courses taught by Thom Knoles and other master teachers, and cognized by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, changes one’s neuroplasticity pathways through learning from a place of inner peace. Remapping the cortex of your brain results in the ability to adapt, remember and live your life more fully with bliss-filled pleasure.

Ayurvedic vegetarian food was cooked by in-house chefs each day; with 70% of the produce coming from organic farming in the area. Satisfying bowls of kitchari and vegetables were served daily to aid in the process of purification along with a lovely cup of chai.
