Fifth Floor Meditation Center, East Village NYC

In the heart of the East Village is an artist studio, living quarters and a center for Vedic Meditation, Yoga, Vedic Knowledge, Cooking and Engagement with the Vedic community. Built in 1920, this brownstone originally housed a small Shul for a Rabbi and his wife to live and give teachings.

In 1959-1961 it was the Reuben Gallery where “the Happenings” occured, a place where artists from overlapping social networks came together for experimental, participatory art programs. The first female performance art troupe led by Simone Forte took place on the ground floor of this building.  Artists like Allan Kaprow, Claes Oldenburg and Jim Dine all had shows and spent months in the gallery.

The creative energy is perceptible in the Fifth Floor Meditation Center. It engages people's individuality with their universality once entering the sanctity of the space. This allows one to deepen their practice at a visceral level.
